Completed 2010

We were asked to build a highly energy efficient 660 sq ft addition to an existing 930 sq ft home built in the early 1900’s. This work included energy efficient improvements to the existing structure along with some minor renovations. The addition created a master bedroom suite including a bathroom and walk in closet. Two office spaces and a well-lit hallway/gallery were also part of the addition. Solar Tubes were used for day-lighting the hall/gallery, one of the offices, and the bathroom.

The addition was constructed with both a sealed/conditioned crawl space and attic (for storage). Open cell foam was used for both the sealed attic and the exterior walls of the addition. Other attributes of the addition work included: dual flush toilet, exterior siding installed with a drainage plain, reclaimed heart pine flooring, low/no VOC interior paints, a metal roof and aging in place considerations (accessible shower, outlets and switch placement).

A new HVAC system including new duct work for the entire home was carefully specified and installed for high performance and energy efficiency. Other features reworked in the existing home included a sealed crawl space, and sealing and insulating knee walls in the old home’s attic area.
